JACKSONVILLE, Fla — Jacksonville has been home to the matchup between the Florida Gators and Georgia Bulldogs since 1933.
Since then, it’s only been played out of Jacksonville twice, in 1994 and 1995 when the Gator Bowl was renovated ahead of the Jaguars first season.
With a potential stadium renovation on the horizon, the game may move again.
First Coast News spoke to fans who want to see the game come back and stay in Jacksonville.
Including Trent Ferguson, who drove seven hours from Rome, Georgia for his first game in Jacksonville.
“I had very high expectations and so far, they’ve been exceeded," Ferguson said.
Bulldog fan, Halston Nelson, is from Florida and circles this day every year.
“36 years whether it's stuck in traffic, trying to do A/C work for this game, or whether it's coming to the game, I’ve been dealing with Florida-Georgia, Jacksonville. Good, bad, and ugly,” Nelson said.
The two Bulldog fans are excited for a new stadium and want the game to stay in Jacksonville.
This weekend it might be the only thing a Bulldog and Gator agree on.
“While the stadium’s down, we’re not going to be able to have the game here you know, and we love RV City. That’s the only thing we’re not excited about, but it will be cool to have a new stadium," Gator fan Austin Wright, said.
The City of Jacksonville says it expects to have a new agreement to keep the game in Jacksonville before the current contract ends in 2025.
Which shows the city, Florida, and Georgia are committed to keeping one of college football’s greatest rivalry’s where it's been for 90 years.
“It’s a totally different vibe, even in the stadium it’s a nice 50/50 split. You can’t do this in Athens, there’s no way to have RV City. There’s no way to replicate that," Georgia fan, Jessica Jones, said.
The Gators and Bulldogs are set to kickoff Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
